Mom Pride

I thought folks might like to see some pics we just had taken of our too-cute kids!

Finn is a little man of contradiction. On one hand, he's a pure delight, smiling at everyone, just happy-happy almost all the time at home and on the town, babbling and laughing and playing. On the other hand, he can be a real terror and isn't afraid to throw a baby-sized temper fit if he can't get what he wants. What does he want? Oh, everything. The toilet (he's playing in the water if we forget to close the door), the oven (he pulled it open and trapped himself underneath the door one day), the cabinets and bookshelves, the floor lamps (we're lucky they're not all broken because he's tipped them over a few times), the stereo (almost blew out the speakers again today), Sappha's room (now gated, but he bangs his toys on it in loud protest if she goes in there), and absolutely anything that anyone is eating or drinking (the kid is hungry all the time - he ate three bowls of cereal and fruit for breakfast this morning!). He's getting more mobile all the time, too: besides his wicked fast crawl, he stood up yesterday without assistance for the first time (I mean, from the floor to a stand-alone postition, not pulling up on a piece of furniture), and today he walked the full width of our living room.

Sappha seems to be more herself now. Thanks for all the suggestions and support that you posted to my blog and emailed to me privately. I'm sure we'll have more rough patches, but for now at least, the seas are a bit calmer. Sappha had her first band concert two weeks ago (she plays the clarinet), and it was really fun to hear how much she and the group have progressed since September. When she got her clarinet, she couldn't even produce sound from it! Her last swim meet of the season is next weekend, and she's looking forward to a summer of just splashing around in the pool, rather than doing laps in it. (She wants to waterski this summer, too, so consider this a heads-up to her patient, loving, boat-driving uncles!) School ends at the end of June, and she and I are looking forward to a few weeks of relaxing and doing our favorite summertime stuff (the Natural History Museum, the library, the Brooklyn Ice Cream Factory) before she heads off to Michigan.

So that's about it for an update on the kids - I'll check in about me after this week's chemo.

Hey honey - I've been thinking about you so much, I'm glad to be able to come back to so many posts! We were on vacation for a week, and then things were nuts, but now I have a moment to breathe.
You're kids are just great - doing everything that they need to to grow into strong, interesting, independent people; and you're doing what you need to do to help them not grow into jerks. :)
And you have a fabulous noggin, by the way - we should have shaved your head back in college, too!
love,
dawn

I think that Finn of yours is just about the cutest thing I've ever seen! That smile is the best!! You and Sappha enjoy those first few weeks of summer together...and eat some ice cream for me. Gosh, I love that place! The one in Chinatown ain't so bad either. My favorite is their almond cookie flavor! Talk to you all soon!
Love,
Erin

Pictures are great!! Finn is really getting to be a big boy. Will soon have a birthday. Sappha looks so grown-up. We keep praying for a complete recovery. My computer has been down for over 2 weeks so am really behind with my e-mail. Working Bible School this week-tiring but fun. Aunt Jim
